Deluxe Double Room

Heidis Home, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka

During our stay at Heidi’s Homestay we opted to stay in the deluxe double room which was on the small side but comfortable and perfect for all of our everyday needs.

It has its own en-suite bathroom which was great for privacy, a large double bed with lake views a sofa and plenty of storage space for our luggage. This was ideal for our stay and as a base to explore the local surrounding areas and attractions.

What you get

The rooms is equipped with clean sheets, fresh towels, free toiletries, hairdryer, tea & coffee making facilities and Wi-Fi. It definitely felt like a cosy little home which made you instantly feel at ease. We especially love that the blankets were super thick as it was very cold when we were there due to the off-season and they kept us super warm and cosy at night.

Activities

Gregory Lake

Gregory Lake, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka

This is a huge lake in the middle of Nuwara Eliya, that has a beautiful park next to it with walkways and benches to rest on. There are horses roaming around which are offered for rides, plus for a few hundred rupees, tourists can take a 20-minute speedboat ride on the lake. The cool air is lovely on the water and the sights are unbeatable.

Visit a tea factory

Tea Factory, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka

You can’t not come to Newark Eliya and not visit a tea factory! It’s a right of passage. The humidity, cool temperature and the rain fall in the country’s central highlands provide the climate that favours the production of high quality tea. The industry was introduced to the country in the 1867 by James Taylor, the British planter who arrived in Sri Lanka in 1852.

Check out a waterfall or two

There are plenty of awesome water falls to visit while you are here, including Lovers Leap Falls, Bakers Falls, St. Clairs Falls, Devon Falls and Ramboda Falls. The most famous of these is Lovers Leap where you can get some of the best Instagram worthy photos and a breath taking view.

Take a hike on Moon Plains

Moon Plains Tea Field, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka

The Moon Plains of Nuwara Eliya is a rather new area for visiting and are an open area full of fields, forests, walking paths and surrounding mountains. This is the kind of place for visitors who love taking walks in nature or spending the day out in the open.

Venture to World’s End

worlds end, nuwara eliya, Sri Lanka

Further down south after Ambewela and higher up the mountains is Horton Plains National Park, which includes World’s End. The hiking trails in Horton Plains are top-notch and a must if you like hiking. World’s End is a drop-off at the edge of a huge cliff at the end of the Horton Plains plateau.

How to get there

It is a pretty small town so you can easily get a cheap tuk tuk or taxi there with no hassle at all. Or arrange pick up through the owners.

A tuk tuk cost us 300 from the bus station to the Heidis and it will be roughly the same to get back again.
